Happy Homemaker Monday ~July 1

Good morning my dears. It's a gorgeous morning here. I can't believe for so many years I hated the mornings. I use to sleep in late every day, even during the school year I'd crawl back into bed for a few hours after Kyla got on the bus. Lately though, I can't seem to sleep in, I think it's because I'm getting older and can't stay up quite so late. All that extra sleep earlier in the night is making mornings easier which lets me enjoy the peacefulness that is watching the world come to wake. I'm not sure I'll ever be up with the sunrise and be happy about it but I can deal with 7am.

Which brings me to today and Happy Homemaker Monday, the wonderful weekly link up posted by Sandra over at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. I meant to start this post a bit earlier but I've been a wee bit distracted by this cutie pie and her intense concentration on My Little Pony (neigh neighs as she calls them lol).

She's intent on making sure Nightmare Moon doesn't hurt Twilight.
Okay... must ignore the cute dances and focus... must resist the urge to giggle

The Weather ~

Right now it's so sunny but already 82 and it's not even 10am yet.  The humidity today is 69% already and I'm sure it'll keep climbing. We had some rain come through early this morning and all that water is gonna start evaporating soon. Thank God for the invention of central air conditioning.

The rest of the week looks like it's going to miserably hot as well. I'm hoping by Thursday the humidity may drop a little bit so we can enjoy the 4th at my in-laws without dying from the heat.

Right now I am ~

Watching Kyndel, my niece, for my father-in-law while he takes Granny (mom-in-laws mother) to the doctor. It's funny, six months ago if you'd ask me if I'd ever babysit her, the response would have been a resounding, hell nawh! (accent and all) Kendall would take one look at me and scream like a demon banshee before running away. Now though, she loves her Aunt Felicia and she's such a joy to hang out with. Almost makes me miss having little ones...almost

She's all smiles and giggles when she sees me now.

On my reading list ~

The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson

Movies or Shows I watched this weekend ~

Mike and I finished up Black Spot on Netflix, I'm really hoping that they do a third season and that it won't take forever for Netflix to gain access to the rights. If you have Netflix and haven't tried this yet I highly suggest if you like crime type dramas mixed with a light supernatural feel.

I also watched The Hitman's Body Guard and laughed so hard. I just love Ryan Reynolds.

On the menu for this week ~

After last Monday's debacle of not having a meal plan ready I quickly fixed the issue and planned out for the next month. I really can't stand not knowing what I'm going to cook.

Monday: Cabbage spaghetti
Tuesday: Pork chops, black eye peas, cornbread and some sort of veggie still to be determined
Wednesday: lemon pepper chicken, veggies, and rice
Thursday: Dinner will be at my in-laws, think we are cooking steaks over an open fire, scrumptious
Friday: hot dogs and chili, some kind of fresh fruit
Saturday: Shrimp boil with baby red potatoes and mini corn on the cobs
Sunday: chicken strips, shells-n-cheese, veggies, and fresh fruit

On my to-do list this week ~
  • regular weekly household chores, the bulk of which is done on Friday's
  • finish the Shannara book by Thursday night, it's due on Friday
  • work on scanning family pictures into the computer, also need to research affordable photo storage solution to protect these great photos, many from the early 1900s
  • figure out how to defrost my freezer...I really need to get this done
  • Kyla has bloodwork to be done on the 4th and an appointment on the 5th with her dermatologist
  • order mom's treadmill and DVD's for her
What I am crocheting this week ~

I am still working on the baby blanket for my friend but I'm really close to finishing it!

Looking forward to ~

Kyla coming home from her bio-dads for a few days this week, I'm even looking forward to her boyfriend coming over for a day. And this Saturday me and the girls get to spend a few hours with a friend of mine and her girls swimming at the local state park.

Looking around the house ~

I need to do laundry, unload the dishwasher, and clean my living room window sills. I pulled up the blinds today and oh lordy they are dirty.  The floors need a light going over but that's about it for chores today. As mentioned the blinds are pulled up and the living room is bathed in sunlight and I'm taking in my favorite view of the lake.

From the camera ~

This is my Salvia Salsa Red, I just love this plant because undoubtedly I can't kill it. It was full and green when we left for Florida but being gone a week it didn't get watered. I came home to it on the brink of death but three week's later not only has it slowly started fleshing back out but I have another bloom starting.

What I'm wearing today ~

My new glasses (pictured above in the photo with Kyndel). So excited to have glasses that don't slip my nose, aren't scratched, and don't have those annoying little nose guard things so when I do put them on top of my head my glasses don't yank my hair out of my ponytail.

I'm also wearing a light pink t-shirt, jean shorts, and my ever-present Fitbit.

One of my simple pleasures ~

Listening to a peaceful house, where nothing but the fan is making noise.

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and that your week is just as good.

  1. well you two are adorable and look alike. My husband got new glasses and it totally changed his look! He's an introverted engineer and when I saw the red frames, I instantly knew. Everyone loves them and it gives his face definition. Like a hair change, getting something new that you use every day is terrific! LeeAnna

    1. Thanks! And I agree, changing something in your appearance that makes you feel better is great, a year or so ago I died the bottom half of my hair a vibrant purple. It gave me amazing confidence.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. I will be posting pictures of it soon, I've got about 15 to 20 rows left, if I focus hard on it I should be done by the weekend. (I'm still kinda slow at crocheting)
