Happy Homemaker Monday ~ July 22

Good morning!

How was your weekend?

Mine was full of extra kids. We had friends who have lived far out of state (Ohio) for a few years move closer back to out of state (Texas) this weekend. While they were in town visiting family their kids spent a couple of nights with us. It's always a joy to have them here and the girls were sad to see them go.  After they left we headed over to the local state park for swimming before coming home to relax.

It was a fun weekend but I'm kinda glad it's over. Extra kids can be tiring when you're not used to it.

Now it's time to join up with Sanda and her Happy Homemaker Monday link-up. I always enjoy this weekly post because it helps me settle my brain and plan my week ahead.

The Weather:

Right now it's raining like crazy. I woke up to the sound of thunder rolling and gave in to the urge to roll over and go back to sleep, I always sleep so well when it's storming. The rain should let up soon for a bit at least.

Last week was so hot but we actually have a cold front moving through the area this week and the temperatures are dropping from the high-90s to the mid to high-80s. Which doesn't sound cold at all but is really low this time of year for us. It's a much-needed break from the sweltering heat for sure!

Right Now I Am:

Listening to Pandora as I type up this post and watching it rain. I'm also thinking about what I'm going to have for lunch.

On My Reading Pile:

The Scions of Shannara by Terry Goodkind
The Goodbye Summer by Patrica Gaffney

Movies or Shows I Watched this Weekend:

Saturday I curled up and worked on a small crochet project while watching Fiddler on the Roof. It's always been a favorite of mine.  Hayley even curled up and watched a little bit of it with me.

On My TV this Week:

Bates Motel
SG-U (Stargate Universe)
NCIS season 15

On the Menu this Week:

I've got to try something different from the way I currently menu plan. We tend to fly by the seat of our pants a lot and so my menu plans are always changing. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, it'll probably mean a complete overhaul of how I buy groceries and all.

Here are a few of the things we might have this week though.

  • Steak, potatoes, salad or veggies, maybe some baked beans
  • chicken taco salads
  • Creamy spaghetti
  • Roasted chicken, veggies, rice

On My to-do List and Goings On this Week:
  • clean house, it's bad..
  • look into yearbook project for local homeschool group
  • browse through a cookbook for some recipes to try
  • contact a nearby school for the blind about their summer program for Kyla
  • meet up with a friend and her kids for a day at the park
  • hair appointment on Thursday
  • Hayley has an allergy shot due on Friday
What I'm Crocheting this Week:

I finally finished the baby blanket!! I'll post it later this week after I give it to my friend (I don't want to chance her seeing the finished product on Facebook before I gift it to her).

This week I'm taking a break from afghans and am working on finishing a couple of arugami projects.  The Emoji Poop just needs eyes so I'll get it done first, then I'm going to start on finishing the penguin and the floppy cat.

Looking Forward to:

Spending time with my friend chatting later this week and getting my hair done. I'm so tired of the grey roots showing and my highlights are starting to look really off.

Looking Around the House:

Oh, I've got to clean today. There's laundry that needs to be done, the kitchen floors need tending after all the kids tracking in and out, and the bathrooms are in a dire state. Guess I know what the rest of my day will be like.

From the Camera:

I whipped up a small market bag for my youngest niece this weekend for her to put some of the crochet arguami food I'm going to make her.

One of My Simple Pleasures:

Listening to music. Currently, I've been listening to a lot of alternative music like Billie Ellish and Bishop Briggs.

Question of the Week:

I hope it's a wonderful week for everyone! Wondering minds want to know...what's one of your families favorite must have all the time dishes?

  1. Arugami projects are fun to work on! I have done one of the poop emoji's so fun!! Have a great Monday/week!

    1. They really are so much fun. I think it's my favorite type of crocheting.

  2. I'm glad someone got some crocheting done. I sure didn't! :)

I hope you can stop by:

  3. Sounds like you had a fun & busy weekend. I agree extra kids are tiring if you aren't used to them. My menu plan changes all the time from what I make on Mondays. I think of it as more of a guide so I know I have the ingredients to make something. Hope you have a great week! (I don't know if we have a must have all the time dish. We tend to cycle through things like spaghetti, tacos, and pork chops...boring, I know).

  4. So sorry I'm so late this week. LOL I'll turn around and be back here tomorrow I'm so late! Glad you had some old friends move back closer and looks like you had a ton of fun. I loved your photos! Hope you are having a GREAT weekend.
